8171 BISP 2 New Programs: Registration Open [Online] 2023
In 2008, a program known as the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) was developed with the intention of combating the problem of extreme poverty in Pakistan. Benefits in the form of cash are distributed by the government of Pakistan to 4.7 million of the neediest households across the country on a monthly basis as part of this program. This assists people in meeting their fundamental requirements, such as having access to food, healthcare, education, and a means to support themselves financially. Recently, the government has adopted two new projects, BISP Financial Inclusion and e-Ticketing, in an effort to better streamline the program and bring additional benefits to the general population.
At a later time, the minister declared that the cabinet had resolved to create a new division for poverty alleviation, a first in Pakistani history. The meeting had been presided over by Prime Minister Imran Khan. Division of Social Protection and Poverty Reduction will be its official title.
He dispelled fears that BISP would be scrapped, saying that the government had instead formed a poverty alleviation program that would oversee a number of social assistance initiatives.
“BISP will continue in its place, but these programs will be launched in addition to it under the umbrella of the ‘Ehsaas’ program,” the minister said. Ehsaas is a re-branding of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP).
Prime Minister Imran Khan repeatedly emphasizes the concept of an Islamic welfare state, or Riyasat-e-Medina, and the government’s efforts to implement this vision through the 21st century public policy framework known as Ehsaas. Ehsaas is the most progressive plan because it uses the public policy tools of the twenty-first century to effect a grassroots shift in society rather than a top-down revolution.

The BISP Program strives to support the most impoverished and vulnerable people in Pakistan by providing them with social protection and reducing the overall prevalence of poverty in the country. The program provides a wide range of services, such as emergency financial assistance in the form of food and cash, as well as medical and educational coverage, insurance, and other measures that can be taken to lessen the effects of poverty.
The BISP program has already shown that it is able to successfully provide crucial assistance to those folks who are in the most need of it while also protecting their privacy and confidentiality. During the upcoming fiscal year, there will be a continuous emphasis placed on increasing support and widening the scope of social protection to include a bigger number of people overall. This will be done in order to keep up with the growing demand for these services.
