Is Higher Item Rarity In POE 2 Makes Loot Drop Better?

Path of Exile 2: How To Upgrade Item Rarity

When Path of Exile 2 developer Grinding Gear Games went on vacation, players became increasingly desperate. They even resorted to a fictitious summoning ritual to summon a patch to solve their predicament in Early Access.

But for player, Slipperyjim8, it was a perfect opportunity to kill monsters and collect data for 16 days. It was finally proven that POE2 Currency rarity stat is indeed related to loot drops.

Jim’s Video Caused Fans To Question

Slipperyjim8’s story began on December 23, when Jim uploaded a video titled “Does Rarity Bring You More Path Of Exile 2 Currency Drops?” The video was originally intended to investigate whether Waystone rarity affects the amount of loot dropped. And the cause of this investigation was also because players suspected that item rarity data had been adjusted.

In the video, Jim states that while collecting loot data from 150 Waystone clears, he began to “doubt” the functionality of item rarity data, especially as it relates to currency. Jim thought that rarity would make the currency that players did get rarer instead of more, but that was just speculation, and he began testing.

When players compared the data he collected while running Waystones at different rarity levels, his conclusions were counterintuitive. When Jim processed the data from 150 Waystone clears in real time, his data showed that the item rarity stat was actually reducing the amount of currency dropped. This was completely contrary to Jim’s previous thinking.

The data brought a crisis of confidence. To make matters worse, Jim’s fans also criticized his data table in the comments. They thought that Jim was making a classic mistake by not considering Scrolls of Wisdom as one of POE 2 currencies. This caused a tremendous change.

Jim Started A New Horror Challenge

A week later, Jim uploaded another video titled “I killed 500 rare monsters and recorded every drop – sending good vibes”. This is a follow-up video, which begins with Jim covering his scalp with tinfoil and claiming that there is no use in this video.

The video records Jim’s difficult journey to kill 500 rare monsters in POE 2 without his item rarity stat increasing, recording the number of monster modifiers. Each modifier increases the final loot and the loot they drop.

After this, Jim intends to do the same thing with another 500 monsters and then kill another 500, repeatedly raising the item rarity stat level to determine what this stat is for.

And Jim still said that he posted this video for no purpose, no information, just to gain support from the audience so that he can continue to farm another 500 monsters.

Jim Proves That Item Rarity Makes Loot Better

On January 8th, Jim uploaded a video where he collected data on rare monsters for 16 consecutive days, killing a total of 1800 monsters. It was a complex process, where he snapshotted rare monsters and recorded the loot they dropped. He kept killing monsters and the item rarity kept increasing. But because the process was too long, he only killed 300 monsters the last time.

Jim talks about the complete process he went through in his video. First, he went into the map and looked for rare monsters and stopped to take a screenshot of his name and all modifiers; he wanted to know how much rarity these modifiers would give the player, but he had no rarity after killing the monster, no rarity on the map, and no rarity on his atlas, then did it again, he had rarity on him, but not on the map, and no rarity on the atlas. Repeating this process, he had a higher and higher rarity on him, but never on the map or atlas. Until finally he had higher rarity items on him, both on the map and the atlas. Jim finished this crazy fight and finally had some time to rest.

So, this huge amount of data finally proves one thing that item rarity leads to better loot. As Jim’s original theory confirmed, the item rarity stat does not produce more loot. Instead, it makes the loot that drops likely to be better items.

When players equip items with more loot rarity affixes, monsters will drop less gold, but the gold piles that are dropped will contain more gold, and those gold piles that originally dropped will contain rarer currencies like POE2 Exalted Orbs. Over time, as the player’s rarity stat increases, monsters will gradually drop more magic and rare items.

In Jim’s opinion, this is an excellent result, but he believes that item rarity is a failed stat, a product of players’ obsession with comparing themselves to others. In his opinion, it is not what players should care about, and there are more interesting things that players should really care about. So what do you think of this item rarity stat? Do you think it has any other uses? Looking forward to seeing you in the game!
